Press Release Body: If you are on old version of Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP, then you should consider possible support scenario as well as compatibility with new SQL Server and Windows Server. If you are on version 8.0 or earlier, then Microsoft Business Solutions Dynamics subdivision doesn’t support your ERP any longer and the only option you got is to call Dynamics GP VARs and Partners to rescue to their support expertise, if it is still available in your area and for your technical level. It is probably wise decision to upgrade your old version to the current version Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. There might be several obstacles to upgrade, such as your status in annual enhancement program – in order to get new reg key you should be current on the moment of version 10.0 release. If you lapsed to pay annual fee, you should talk to your Great Plains VAR on reenrollment options. Let’s move on to Dynamics GP version upgrade highlights:
1. Great Plains Upgrade technology. Great Plains Dynamics GP upgrade is available through Great Plains Utilities. Upgrade is wizard style process, however the wizard often requires GP consultant expertise, Great Plains Service pack application and possible calls to Dynamics GP technical support team. Initial steps are loading new GP user workstation, service pack application (however this is not instructed in wizard explicitly) and then company-by-company upgrade on Microsoft SQL Server database level – copying tables, that are subject to change in new version, to temporary database, recreating the table in its new structure and repopulating it from temp db.
2. Great Plains Customizations and Third Party Add-On upgrade. In the (often likely) case, when you have Great Plains Dexterity unique modification, specially designed and programmed by your historical GP Dexterity developer, then you should first be sure, that your Dex piece is upgraded in its Dex code first. If you like, you should call us and get upgrade quote from our Great Plains Dexterity Software Development Factory and GP technical support center. Third party add-on upgrade – you can ask your GP reseller to call Add-On publisher to check if new version is available
3. Report Writer reports upgrade. Dynamics GP publishes the list or RW reports, that are not upgradeable and needs to be recreated from scratch in the new version. We are a little bit more optimistic and we offer RW reports upgrade, as we know that what we need to do is come through RW formulas and make changes there
4. Crystal Reports and version update. CR are more tolerant to Dynamics GP upgrade process, and normally they will work without intervention, but who knows what is your specific case and it is good idea to check with Great Plains Guru. The same should be said about FRx reports
